Bianca Green replied to the topic Parenting when Overwhelmed Recording in the forum General forum for peaceful parenting related questions and discussions 7 years, 8 months ago
I listened to the recording only a few days ago, and I wanted to say how powerful it has been. I have been using the volcano analogy with my children, and when I feel overwhelmed I have been saying “hey guys, I am at 6 on the volcano and I need some calm and quiet, I don’t want my volcano erupting. Could we read together because I need some…[Read more]

Thank you for your insight Meg, it is appreciated. Things seem to have calmed down now. I think my SIL might be receptive to a conversation, but she is quite black and white and closed off. Always worth a try!

I have a question about children, how to respond to family who are scared that so called manipulating behaviours and defiance is learnt from watching other children?
I am NOT the perfect mum, I have some big issues I am working on, so I am not judging anyone here, just trying to figure out the dynamic and if I can find common ground, reassure my…[Read more]

The vagus nerve, emotions and the difficulty with mindfulness practices
As I remembered from anatomy, the vagus nerve (cranial nerve x) innervates the diaphragm but what failed to register in class is that the vagus nerve also innervates much of our viscera – in fact all of our internal organs w…[Read more]

Dear Denisa,
I hope you do not mind my responding to your post but I resonated with a lot of what you said. I have been on a long journey and still working my way through. It is hard to explain but I have come to see my journey as a blessing as I have so much more understanding and compassion towards others. However I also look back at some of…[Read more]

What happens when she hits another child – what specifically do you do? WOuld you mind sharing so can have a clearer picture? I am just wondering if she knows it is a boundary and needs it to be held firmer so she can have a cry to release tension?
I was reading today about the alpha complex (Dr Gordon Neufeld) and he was talking about when kids…[Read more]

This is a really fascinating talk that is importent in understanding humanity, not just childhood playground talk. LINK at BOTTOM.
Notes
In all relationships there is a heirarchical role, of the alpha and the dependent. the alpha is the leader and the caretaker in their unpeverted state. As adults, we are preoccupied in putting children ass…[Read more] -

I have previously requested advice about screen time in families where they are used as control patterns. I generally resonate with Peter Grey and I find this article very compelling; but counter to experience

I had a really big aha! moment today. A wonderful Christmas gift.
I had slept fitfully, and my son skidded into our room and I awoke with the awareness someone had dived under the bed. I found myself calling out my brothers name. As I woke fully, I realised I was replaying my unhealed, dysfunctional sibling relationship with my son.
It never…[Read more]

Bianca Green started the topic Meditations – do we need to come off guided ones? in the forum Self-healing 8 years, 5 months ago
I only ever listen to guided meditations – I occasionally when I feel out of my body, do a scan and deep breathing but NOT enough.
Do we need to move on from guided meditations at a point and learn silent meditation practice?
I am still quite reactive still. At the moment I am doing a lot of loving kindness meditations.

My hope is to find an article that succinctly explains what cPTSD is and how to support people who are trying to manage parenting. For me personally, I have tried to explain that I need a good support network and to not have undue stress – and I often get told that I just need to be practical, change the way I parent, get time away from my…[Read more]

Thank you Genevieve, what you wrote was so helpful this is something I can read every morning before getting up to help e set the day. I realised how totally dissociated I was – until recently I was sat colouring in with my daughter, and just for a moment it was as if I was in my body again and I started to cry tears of joy just to be sharing…[Read more]

I have some questions about how to manage when you have cPTSD. I have probably had lots of amazing advice from Genevieve that I have assimilated over the years, or tried when I can.
What I find is that when I have major stresses, I forget to look after myself. In the past I have had success with the following:
Meditation
Eating…[Read more] -
