I’m going to share a few links relating to iodine deficiency. I’m sharing with you the information that I dearly wish I knew before becoming a mother. Iodine is especially important for pregnant mothers, but from all I’ve since learned (I’ve since read a few books on the subject), it’s something that every parent should be very aware of. Equally as important as Vitamin C and Vitamin D. Without iodine the thyroid can’t work optimally, and the thyroid is the master gland, so you can begin to make the connections with hormonal and hence emotional balance.
Here in New Zealand we’re one of the many areas around the world where our soils are deficient in iodine. Dr Brownstein, one of the most renowed experts on the subject (I’ll link his youtube seminar below) has found from his research with thousands of patients that 96% of them were iodine deficient. I myself came to learn about how important (and a bit scary!) this issue is just a couple of years back when my son and I myself were both found to be deficient in iodine and hence low thyroid function. I got lots of tests done because my son’s health had been declining. Within weeks of taking the iodine and other supplements, his energy and mood were back up to their more normal levels. He went from being someone who got up at 6am to go to the gym before work (age 18) to needing to go back to bed by 10am!!
This testing was through a holistic health centre, our bloods were normal, so feel free to ask me more about that.
“Children who suffer from IDD usually exhibit symptoms such as these:
Poor coordination and control over body movements
Hearing problems
Below par mental ability or IQ levels ten to fifteen points below normal
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Cretinism –Cretinism is a congenital condition which severely stunts growth, causes mental retardation and other developmental problems in newborns.
Goitre
This is just the beginning of the potential symptoms of low iodine.
Dr Brownstein’s talk on Iodine deficiency and what every parent NEEDS to know about it!!!
This study will be only minimally helpful to those of you wishing to investigate the possible connection between iodine deficiency and ADHD. It shows that the majority of children diagnosed with ADHD were mild to moderately deficient in iodine, which of course doesn’t prove causality. But it’s not a subject that I’ve researched, but if you google ADHD and iodine deficiency, there are no shortage of resources to check out. But I’ll share this one as a place to start if you want to start digging into the research. https://thebesthealthylifestyletips.wordpress.com/2015/11/18/iodine-deficiency-in-children/
Iodine benefits, protects your immune system from invading microorganisms;
Dr David Brownstein’s seminar is long (and not the most engaging speaker!) but very comprehensive! It’s one of those seminars that I wish everybody could watch. He talks about all of the benefits of being iodine sufficient, including the role it plays in supporting the body to detoxify and to have much more resilience to toxins. It plays a part in heavy metal detoxification, clearing the impacts of molds and viruses, and the role it plays in hormonal balance, avoiding or treating fibrocystic breast disease, ovarian and uterine cysts, FERTILITY (this is a biggie!!) and more.
