Hi again everyone
I just read another prompt in the weekly reflections email from Genevieve and I was reminded about a wonderful moment last weekend. My son Tomas 6 y/o had been really distressed at a park we visited with a friends daughters. He had been frightened about joining the girls on a large swing and decided not to ride it with them. When he was off the girls continued and sang a song with wild abandon and Tomas started screaming to stop it relentlessly. At the time I let him know he could have a turn later on his own but the girls singing continued to distress him. There was nothing in their tone or words that suggested to me sinister intent but just before bed he finally disclosed the reason it upset him so much amoung many tears and deep sobbing. He said he thought the singing was intended to tease him. I validated his anger and sadness, but what impressed me most was how he articulated what had happened!! The other thing that impressed me enormously was how my daughter Alicia 5 y/o had empathised with him. amoung other words she said was “we really love Tomas”. They both moved me to tears (I was tired!). I said “you guys blow me away. Tomas said what does that mean Dad? I rephrased a few versions until he got it. They warmed my soul that night big time and I was so grateful too for this forum. I wouldn’t have engaged with them or been blessed with that experience had it not been for the awareness and intention I have added to my parenting journey since joining the May eCourse.
Thanks Genevieve and team!!
Thanks Tomas and Alicia too!!
Love you!!! Heaps!!!!
